Privacy Policy

Welcome to Dreamy. This Privacy Policy describes how Dreamy ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

We collect information you provide directly when using the Service, including:

  • Account information: Name, email address, age range, and gender (provided during onboarding).
  • Dream content: Dream descriptions, emotions, tags, notes, and other details you enter when logging dreams. This may include sensitive personal information.
  • Voice recordings: Audio recordings you make when describing a dream using the voice input feature. These recordings are sent to OpenAI for transcription (see Section 3).
  • Chat messages: Messages you send when chatting with our AI about your dreams.
  • Preferences: Language preference, notification settings, and app configuration choices.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Device identifiers: We collect device IDs to enforce usage limits and prevent abuse.
  • Usage data: App interactions, features used, session duration, and engagement metrics.
  • Purchase data: Subscription status and transaction history (processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store).
  • Notification tokens: Device tokens for delivering push notifications you have opted into.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • Generate AI-powered dream analyses, dream images, dream titles, dream tags, chat responses, and daily affirmations;
  • Moderate content for safety before processing;
  • Enforce usage limits (e.g., daily dream limit per device);
  • Process subscriptions and manage premium access;
  • Send push notifications you have opted into;
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service; and
  • Communicate with you about the Service.

3. AI Processing and Third-Party Services

Important: To provide dream analysis, image generation, chat, and other AI features, your personal data is sent to third-party AI services for processing. Before using AI features, we ask for your explicit consent within the app. The specific data shared with each service is described below.

3.1 Data Shared with OpenAI

We send the following data to OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.) for processing via their API:

  • Dream descriptions (text you enter when logging a dream) — used to generate dream analyses, dream titles, dream tags, and chat suggestions.
  • Voice recordings (audio you record when describing a dream) — sent to OpenAI's Whisper speech-to-text service for transcription into text.
  • Chat messages and conversation history — sent when you use the dream chat feature to have a conversation about your dream.
  • Your language preference — sent so that responses are generated in your chosen language.
  • Content moderation — dream descriptions are checked by OpenAI's moderation system before processing.

OpenAI processes this data according to their Privacy Policy and API Data Usage Policy. Per OpenAI's API terms, data sent via the API is not used to train their models.

3.2 Data Shared with GetImg.ai

We send the following data to GetImg.ai for processing:

  • Dream descriptions — used to generate an AI image prompt, which is then used to create a visual representation of your dream (available to premium subscribers).

GetImg.ai processes this data according to their Privacy Policy.

3.3 How AI Data is Handled

Your data sent to AI services is:

  • Transmitted securely via encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS);
  • Processed only to generate the requested output (analysis, image, transcription, etc.);
  • Not stored permanently by these services beyond what is needed to process your request.

3.4 Other Third-Party Services

We also use the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google): Backend infrastructure, cloud functions, remote configuration, and data storage.
  • RevenueCat: Manages subscription purchases and entitlements.
  • Superwall: Manages paywall presentation and subscription flows.
  • Mixpanel: Analytics to understand how users interact with the Service.
  • Meta (Facebook) SDK: Analytics and attribution tracking.
  • TikTok SDK: Analytics and attribution tracking.

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies.

4. Data Storage and Retention

  • Local storage: Dream entries, user profiles, and chat messages are stored locally on your device.
  • Cloud processing: Dream content sent for AI processing is not stored permanently by us on our servers. Usage limit records are stored temporarily in Firebase Firestore and cleaned up automatically.
  • Analytics data: Retained by third-party analytics providers according to their respective retention policies.
  • You may delete your local data at any time by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

5. Disclosure of Information

We may share your information with:

  • AI service providers: As described in Section 3, dream content is shared with OpenAI and GetImg.ai for processing;
  • Analytics providers: Aggregated and pseudonymized usage data with Mixpanel, Meta, and TikTok;
  • Payment processors: Subscription data with RevenueCat, Apple, and Google;
  • Legal compliance: When required by law, regulation, or legal process; and
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

6. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our third-party service providers operate. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from your jurisdiction. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access and portability: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data.
  • Opt-out of tracking: You can decline app tracking via the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt or through your device settings.
  • Notifications: You can disable push notifications through your device settings at any time.
  • Analytics: You can manage your tracking preferences within the app's privacy settings.

For European Economic Area (EEA) Users

If you are in the EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the rights listed above, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (provided when using AI features) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Service.

For California Users

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the app or on our website with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
